Local Generosity Helps the Pisgah Hill Campaign Reach an Important Milestone

On an evening in January, the Pisgah Hill Campaign Committee kicked off its local fundraising with a gathering at the beautiful Chandler House Bed & Breakfast in New Gloucester village. While we described the project to several dozen people, a powerful micro-burst snow storm swirled outside. We crept home at 5 miles an hour straining to find the road.

Then, in July, the committee held another fundraiser - this time at the lovely Connemara Farm in New Gloucester. Just as guests were to arrive to enjoy great food and music, a tempest raced through the barnyard soaking the hardy. This same powerful thunderstorm created tornados in nearby towns. We began to wonder what the significance was of freak weather events to the success of our fundraising. And while we were not able to draw any conclusions, 24 hours later our campaign received a significant, anonymous gift that seemed heaven sent.  For more on this wonderful story, please click here to read our press release.

Won't you please help us meet our local goal of $94,000 enabling us to match the other funds pledged from foundation and government sources? Remember, for every dollar that we collect from our local campaign, we will access $4 in matching funds.

At 2010 Annual Meeting Two New Directors Elected to the Board

A strong group of members enjoyed a beautiful evening at the home of Rosemary & Mike Whitney in Pownal. Good food, live music by FEN and a beautiful setting set the stage for members' decision to elect Bill Taylor and Kathryn Dion to the RRCT Board. Both Bill and Kathryn are long time supporters and volunteers of conservation in the region and will bring their considerable talents to RRCT's mission. Welcome Kathryn and Bill!

The evening concluded with a wonderful slide show by RRCT Director, Steve Barr, about our recent canoe adventure, Sabbathday to the Sea, with 24 intrepid paddlers in late April. Check back here for photos soon.

If you'd like to read an account of this adventure see Tux Turkel's excellent first hand account in the Portland Press Herald - Sunday Telegram.
