Royal River Dam Removal

With the 2026 construction windown now only a few weeks away our coalition is busy working through final details to get the project underway. Contractors are lined up.

OVERVIEW: In January of 2025 the Town of Yarmouth's Town Council unanimously voted to approve the removal of the two remaining town owed dams on the Royal River. This historic vote set in motion a historic opportunity to restore river access to migratory sea-run fish who have been blocked from entering the river for over 300 years. To ensure that this project succeeds, a coalition of non-profit organizations, volunteers and community members are hard at work raising the necessary funds, acquiring necessary permits in hopes that removal of the Bridge Street Dam may begin during the summer of 2026.
